23FEB07 Moon
Last night was rather windy, but the atmosphere was stable enough for some descent moon shots. Here are four images that I took of the moon with my cheap digital camera. The eyepiece I was using gave me a telescope magnification of 120x and the digital camera was at 3x optical zoom. Theoretically that makes these images 360x, but I’m not quite sure it works like that.
The image of Saturn was not as good as my previous attempt (see last post), but it is interesting to note that since I took that last image in January, the earth has passed Saturn’s “opposition” in its race around the sun. If you notice the shadow of the planet cast on the rings behind it, you will see that it is on the other side of the planet.
