About this category
This category is reserved for posts that deal with reader submitted comments and questions about the book. For most thoughtful Christians who read Beyond the Firmament, there are two more questions raised for every one answered. This is a common problem when dealing with complex issues that have no easy answers.
While I definitely think that the overall approach to issues of science and faith described in the book is relatively straightforward and simple, it is still not totally without consequence. For any system of belief the question must be asked, “what are the consequences and can we live with them?”
One of the things that readers of Beyond the Firmament have found most helpful is my explanation of how the most common approaches (Young-Earth Creationism, Old-Earth Creationism, and Theistic Evolution) each come with their own set of philosophical or theological consequences. And these are not just academic concerns detached from reality, but they can impact how we live our lives on a daily basis.
In fairness, I also try and point out some of the challenges that result from my approach, but perhaps there are other issues that you would like to discuss. You can submit a question or comment by using the submit comments page on the left-hand menu. Or, you can click the contact author button on the upper menu.
My only disclaimer is that not every question is going to have a satisfying answer this side of heaven! Beware of anybody that tries to sell you simple formulas that can be applied to every passage of Scripture or any scientific discovery. As any serious student of theology can tell you, spiritual mysteries are a dime a dozen. Our faith is full of them. And for good reason! If we could fit our finite minds around the infinite riches of the Christian faith that easily, then we would treat the Bible like we treat any other textbook. Once we’ve read it and worked through it, we would put it away and move on to other things - perhaps only pulling it off the shelf on occasion to check a reference. May it never be!
Once Beyond the Firmament is available, I look forward to hearing from you.- GJG
